CSD Board of Trustees appoints Principals for new schools

CLOVER, SC -The Clover School District (CSD)
Board of Trustees approved the appointment of three principals to open Lake Wylie High School (LWHS), Roosevelt. Middle School (RMS) and Liberty Hill Elementary School (LHES) in August 2026.
Calub Courtwright
Lake Wylie High School
Calub Courtwright was appointed to become Lake Wylie High School’s first Principal. Courtwright is currently serving as the principal of the Ninth Grade Campus (NGC) and served as the principal of Clover Middle School from 2013
to 2023. Courtwright first joined CSD in 1999 as a teacher at Crowders Creek Elementary. He left the classroom in 2007 to become an assistant principal at Crowders Creek. He served as the principal of Bethany Elementary from 2010-2013. He holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Geneva College in Pennsylvania
and a master’s degree in
educational leadership and supervision from Winthrop University. According to the Superintendent, Dr. Sheila Quinn, “Mr. Courtwright is a proven leader at every level he has served as principal. In 2024, he led the Ninth Grade Campus to a 94%
on track to graduation
rate and increased student participation in clubs, athletics, and other extracurricular activities. Teachers appreciate his work ethic and intense focus on student achievement.”
“I am excited about the opportunity to build a
team that includes all stakeholders...teachers, students, parents, and community members that will allow Lake Wylie High School to make history and set the standard for all high schools in the Southeast!” Courtwright said.
Maurice Thomas
Roosevelt Middle School
Dr. Maurice Thomas was appointed to become the first principal of Roosevelt Middle School. Thomas has served as the
principal of Crowders Creek Elementary since 2022.
He spent three years as the assistant principal of Bethel Elementary before moving
to Crowders Creek. Thomas began his educational career in 2013 as a school counselor at Southwest Middle School, a Title I school in Gastonia. Thomas earned a Bachelor of Art in mass communication from Winthrop University,
a Master’s degree in School Counseling from Winthrop, and a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Gardner Webb University. “Dr. Thomas
is energetic, data-driven,
and collaborative in his leadership style,” according to Superintendent, Dr. Sheila Quinn. “He brings middle level experience as both
a counselor and coach to Roosevelt and understands the need to make school engaging for middle school students.” “I am excited about the opportunity
to return to my middle school roots and welcome the Roosevelt Tigers to
the Clover School District. Working in this community has been a rewarding experience over the past six years, and I look forward
to serving in this new role,” Thomas said. Liberty Hill Elementary School
Shavon O’Brien was appointed to become the first principal of Liberty Hill Elementary School. O’Brien has been the principal of Bethel Elementary since 2018. Prior to joining
CSD, she was an assistant principal at Mount
Holly Middle School and Southwest Middle School, both in Gaston County Schools in North Carolina. Continued from pg. 1 degree in elementary Quinn. She has a positive to build strong relationships,
O’Brien served as an Instructional Facilitator at North Belmont Elementary School, also in Gaston County, and as a first
grade teacher at Pineville Elementary School in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School District. O’Brien holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary and early childhood education and a Master’s of Education
education with technology, both from Clarion University in Pennsylvania. She
earned her administrative license from Wingate University in North Carolina. Ms. O’Brien is a strong instructional leader who uses data to drive learner outcomes and encourages a student-centered learning environment,” reported Superintendent, Dr. Sheila

I look forward to working hand in hand with families, educators, and the wider community to lay a strong foundation for success,” O’Brien said.
